On Saturday, April 6, history buffs, community leaders, and preservationists will aid in the maintenance and restoration of numerous sites as part of Park Day, the American Battlefield Trust’s annual hands-on preservation event. Thousands of volunteers across the country will participate as Park Day celebrates its 23rd year with events in 32 states.

In Courtland, Mahone’s Tavern and Museum will host a Park Day event beginning at 9 a.m. Needs include building or repairing fences, clearing brush, landscaping, painting and trash removal, and a local historian will also be available to describe the park’s significance.

For more information about Park Day at Mahone’s Tavern, contact Jonathan Varnell at 252-617-9233 or by e-mail at jvarnell50@yahoo.com. The site is located at 22341 Main St., Courtland.
