FRANKLIN

C. Grant Scarboro is a member of the Franklin High School Class of 2013. While in high school, Scarboro was involved in several extra-curricular activities including golf, football, baseball, scholastic bowl, FIRST Robotics “Builders of Tomorrow” Team 1610 and DECA.

He received the Bronco Award during his senior year and graduated as the valedictorian of his class.

Scarboro was also active in the Boy Scouts of America in Troop 17 where he attained the rank of Eagle.

Scarboro earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering at North Carolina State University with Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian honors in 2017. During college, Scarboro took on internships and projects with United Technologies-Aerospace Systems, NAVAIR and HawkEye 360, where he learned practical applications of engineering in industry. He was also a student leader in Eta Kappa Nu, the honor society for electrical and computer engineering, and participated in the University Scholars Program at NC State.

Scarboro is on track to earn his Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering at North Carolina State University. He has received a National Needs Fellowship for four years from the USDA to research new technologies in optical sensing and their application for promoting sustainable and high-yield agriculture. He is also a student leader in SPIE, the professional society for optics and photonics technology.

During his free time, Scarboro enjoys playing the piano for his friends and family.
