A sign directing people to the Cattashowrock Town and Native Palisade Fort was vandalized over the weekend. Walt Brown, chief of the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe, showed The Tidewater News on Monday morning where he found the sign torn off from its posts within feet of the intersection to Cheroenhaka Road and Cattashowrock Drive.

Brown, who said he filed a report with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, said he’s at a loss to understand why someone would do such a thing.

He will make arrangements to have the sign re-installed in time for the upcoming powwow on Nov. 1-3.
