A Franklin woman has been arrested on multiple charges pertaining to a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Friday morning.

According to Sgt. Scott Halverson, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department, the city’s communications center received a call at 9:16 in reference to a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the 400 block of Lee Street. Officers’ investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling on Norfleet Street had crossed Lee Street, striking a vehicle and causing it to turn on its side. The driver and passengers in the overturned vehicle were able to escape and were taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Halverson then said that evidence left at the crash scene led police to the 2000 block of Harris Street, where officers spotted and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. A short pursuit ensued and the suspect vehicle then allegedly attempted to strike a police vehicle. Police say the suspect vehicle then fled the area and was located approximately 15 minutes later unoccupied. The driver, whom police have identified as Una Been Ford, 54, of Franklin, was soon located and taken into custody.

Ford is charged with hit-and-run, reckless driving, suspended license, no insurance, expired registrations, felony elude and two counts of assault on law enforcement.

She was booked and is now being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
