FRANKLIN
The Franklin Community Christmas Parade and Elf Parade are just around the corner, and registrations for participating in the Christmas parade are due now. The deadline for early registration for the Franklin Christmas parade has now passed, and final date for registration to be in the parade is on Monday, Dec. 2. No registrations will be accepted after that date.
The free Elf Parade, which is on Thursday, Dec. 5, does not need registration in order to participate.
Participants are to assemble in the parking lot of the Franklin Train Depot/Visitor’s Center from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. before walking to Barrett’s Landing with Santa and his elves. Participants will meet with Santa and enjoy refreshments as well and view the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree.
The Christmas Parade this year will be on Friday, Dec. 6, and the theme this year is “Snow Globe Christmas.” The parade route will be the same as in recent years, with line-up being from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and parade step-off at 7 p.m.. Line-up will be on Charles and Gardner streets with Campbell Avenue being the drop-off point behind the Franklin Armory.
Participants are to come down Campbell Avenue behind the Armory so they can be directed to their line-up spot. The parade route will follow 4th Avenue to Main Street, continue on Main and follow onto South Street where the parade will end.
All participants must register, which can be done by obtaining forms from the second floor at Municipal Hall. Other ways to register are at the Downtown Franklin Association/Train Depot/Visitor’s Center by the railroad track on 120 S. Main St. or online by visiting downtownfranklinva.org.
Checks in the amount of $25 must accompany all registrations with checks made payable to Downtown Franklin Association or DFA. Once you are registered in advance, you will receive an assigned number for parade position of line up and map of approximate location to help direct all participants to their position.
