RICHMOND

Del. Roslyn Tyler (D-75), who was re-elected on Nov. 5 to her eighth term to the Virginia House of Delegates, has been appointed by Speaker Elect-Eileen Filler-Corn to serve as chairwoman of the state Education Committee in the Virginia General Assembly.

This information comes from Tyler’s legislative aide, Mary Beth Washington, who added that Tyler is the first African-American to chair this top committee in Virginia history. Further, the delegate has served as a member of the Education Committee for 14 years, and was instrumental in increasing teachers’ salaries, increasing funding K-12 education and making college tuition more affordable for college students.

Washington also stated that Tyler is also a ranking member on the House of Appropriations and Militia, Police and Public Safety committees.

“Del. Tyler is appreciative of her district constituents’ support, and look forward to returning to Richmond in January to continue addressing her constituents’ priorities of increasing the minimum wages, expanding broadband/high speed internet to more rural areas, job creation, affordable health care/prescription drug and protecting hunting rights,” stated Washington.
