Rock Lions get a couple road wins moving them to a record of 10-2. On Jan. 31, Rock Church School entered its 12th game of the season versus the varsity basketball team of Chesapeake Bay Academy. Both teams got off to a slow start with a first quarter score of 8-6. The Lions scored the first six points of the quarter and pulled away 29-12 at halftime. However, the Dolphins would not go away. Even though they were down, they cut it to 6 with 3 minutes left in the game. Rock Lions were able to hold off the Dolphins, knocking down free throws down the stretch to pull out a win by a score of 47-38.

Cole Butler and Christian Fanjul, two major starters for the Lions, were unable to attend the game so D.J. Dillon had to carry more of the load. D.J. led all scores with 31 points while Benny Dillon added 7 points. Luke Blythe had 9 rebounds and 6 points.

Chesapeake Bay Academy was led by Jacob Brothers, who had 14 points for the Dolphins, while the second leading scorer was Ethan Foster with 8 points.

Last Monday, the Lions traveled to Brunswick Academy and came out with a win. The final score was the Lions with 32 and the Vikings of Brunswick with 19.

Dillon put up 21 points while Luke Blythe chipped in six points. Christian Fanjul led both teams with 12 rebounds. Brady Burke and Parts Patel led the Vikings in scoring with 8 points a piece.

“What can I say, these boys work really well together and it turns into wins,” said Coach Danny Dillon. “Three of them, of course, have been playing together for four years. Even though they may not be the most talented, coachable players and chemistry wins games too. I’m just excited that we get to represent God, our school and community as a small Christian program with a lot of heart.”
