Lady Indians lose in close game to Lady Bulldogs

COURTLAND
It was a very close game played at Southampton High School gym on Wednesday between the Southampton County High School Lady Indians and the Brunswick High School Lady Bulldogs. But there is a saying that close counts only in horseshoes. And that was the final word as the Lady Indians lost to the Lady Bulldogs 35-37.
The first half was close as the Lady Bulldogs went to the locker room up 16-15 over the home team. By the end of the third quarter the Lady Bulldogs had their biggest lead of the game with a score of 27-23.
Going into the final quarter the momentum turned in the final minutes of play and the Lady Indians first tied the score at 28 all and then took the lead with a score of 30-28. But with only seconds in the game, the Lady Bulldogs edged back ahead 35-37. The home team, still fighting, took several shots that could tied the game but missed.
Southampton High School Lady Indian head coach Littleton Parker said after the game, “We had a very close ball game tonight. I don’t think that we played as well as we should have. We went down the stretch and we just couldn’t pull it out. This is twice that we have played them this year. We lost by 1 point in Brunswick and by 2 tonight, so it is kinda tough, but that is the way that it goes.”
In scoring, Lady Indians were led in scoring by Patti Ridley with 8 points.
For the Lady Bulldogs they were led in scoring by Nylesha Pair with 17 points.
