One to three inches of accumulation forecast for Thursday night
WAKEFIELD
The National Weather Service’s Wakefield station has issued a winter storm watch for the Western Tidewater area, beginning Thursday afternoon and extending through Friday morning.
As of 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, the NWS is predicting rain mixing with snow beginning sometime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a 70-percent chance of snow later that evening, mainly before 1 a.m. Friday. Accumulation is now expected to total between one and three inches, with locally higher amounts possible. North winds could gust as high as 30 to 35 mph at the immediate coast from Thursday night into Friday morning.
The NWS advises travelers to plan on slippery road conditions during Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
Temperatures on Thursday are expected to peak at 42 degrees and then drop to a low of 25 that night. Friday is forecast to be sunny with a high of 38 degrees and a low of 21 degrees.
