FRANKLIN — Shirley Maddrey Pope, 83, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
Best described as a Faithful Servant, Southern Christian Lady and songbird, she sang for numerous weddings, funerals and events. For 50-plus years she sang “O Holy Night” in Franklin Baptist Church’s Christmas Eve service.
Shirley most treasured her faith, children, grandchildren, love for the church and love for others.
Shirley was a past member of the Franklin Women’s Club, the Franklin Music Study Club, the Chancel Choir, choir member and soloist. She also sang with Star Singers, the Community Choir and Little Theater Group.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Wilson Pope; two sons-in-law, Scottie Whitley and Jeff Joyner; and her parents, Howard Milton Maddrey and Tempie Maddrey Campbell.
Left to carry on her memory are daughters, Rhonda Joyner, Cathy Whitley, Kim Billups and husband, Daryl; grandchildren, Jason Joyner (Courtney), Mary Johnson (Andy), Michael Whitley, Tyler and Cody Billups and Tim Dunn; great-grandchildren, Timothy Dunn, Hudson and Hunter Joyner, River Johnson and Colson and Ava Whitley; a sister, Linda Coggins (Dale); and a brother, Ken Campbell (Lynn).
The private graveside service will be on Friday, April 24, in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Charles Qualls and the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class c/o Franklin Baptist Church.
