Local industrial contractor RepairTech has been selected to receive the 2020 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy for its generous support of Camp Community College.

Under present circumstances, the company was not able to be formally recognized by Chancellor Glenn DuBois during a luncheon in Richmond last month, along with two dozen other individuals, businesses and families throughout the state who have demonstrated exceptional support to Virginia’s community colleges and its foundations. The luncheon is usually sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education.

“Camp Community College is honored that RepairTech has made us a part of their charitable giving,” said President Dr. Dan Lufkin. “We are grateful for their support and fortunate to have them in our region.”

The company made a three-year commitment as a primary sponsor of the community college’s athletic program, which is an endeavor launched by Lufkin after his hire in 2016 not just to enhance student engagement, but community engagement as well.

RepairTech is a family-owned and -operated business that strives to better the community around them. Co-owned by brothers Craig, Nathan and Mike Sawyer, the company is rooted in going above and beyond to not only build a dedicated clientele, but also to let residents know that they are a big part of the community to which they give back.

“We know what it’s like to live, work and thrive in a small community,” said Craig. “At RepairTech, we strongly believe in the philosophy of people helping people to build a stronger community. Helping students and supporting Camp Community College is just one way to do that, and we want the students to have good reason to stay in the area after completing their education.”

As part of the philanthropy award, each college will be awarded funds for the Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship, to be named in honor of the college’s 2020 Chancellor’s Award recipient. The selection of the RepairTech Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship will be made for the fall semester and will be awarded to an eligible graduating high school student who is attending Camp full time and seeking an associate degree.

“The kind of generosity we’ve received from RepairTech really helps us improve the students’ experiences at Camp,” said Interim Director of Institutional Advancement Tony Clark.
