Heavy rains from this past weekend are making their way down, and more precipitation is in the forecast for today, Aug. 19. This is according to a report from the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

Meanwhile, the NWS has also issued a flood warning in effect today through 2 p.m. Aug. 23, or whenever that caution can be canceled. The agency also states that the warning is for the Blackwater River above the city of Franklin, and affecting southwestern Suffolk, as well as Isle of Wight and Southampton counties. Already at 12.3 feet, a portion of Route 611 (Joyners Bridge Road) in Isle of Wight is flooded.

At Barrett’s Landing, the river is above the pier and lower steps below the gazebo.

NWS stated that at 7:45 a.m. Aug. 19, the level was at 12.7 feet; the flood stage is 10.8 feet, and that minor flooding is forecast.

The service added that this river level can be compared to a cresting of 12.6 feet on Sept. 8, 2000.
