Congressional incumbents keep seats

FRANKLIN

Since there were no local candidate races in the City of Franklin, residents focused on the presidential, senatorial and congressional contests, starting with favoring Joseph R. Biden, Democrat, over incumbent Donald J. Trump. But the difference was only 8.66%. Biden got 890 votes (53.55 %) versus Trump’s 746 votes (44.89%). Jo Jorgensen, Libertarian, received 23 votes (1.38 %), and there were only three write-ins (0.18%).

Jennifer Maynard, registrar, stated via email that Franklin has 5,722 registered voters for this election, and that 1,842 people had voted early. The number of mail-in votes is to be determined due to a new law. Voters had until Tuesday to have them postmarked.

She anticipates the rest of the votes by Friday.

All results reported so far are unofficial until the registrar’s office can confirm the totals.

Sen. Mark R. Warner, a Democrat, got 936 votes (57.28 %) versus challenger Republican Daniel M. Gade’s 698 (42.72%).

Congressman C. “Bobby” Scott, a Democrat, received 885 votes (54.80%) versus Republican challenger John W. Collick Jr.’s 730 votes (45.2%). There were no write-ins for either race.

Regarding Virginia’s two amendments, 1,107 people (70.29%) voted yes to amending the state constitution and establish a redistricting commission. Only 468 people (29.71%) voted no.

The second proposal would enable veterans with 100 % service-connected disability to be free from paying state and local taxes on their vehicles, such as a car or pickup truck. The yes votes were 1,372 (85.64%), and 230 people (14.36%) said no.
