FRANKLIN — James W. Urquhart of Wilson Street passed away on Nov. 5, 2020.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1940, in Franklin, to Whalon L. and Gertrude Williams Urquhart.

James honorably served his country in the United States Navy. James served on both the USS Enterprise and USS Intrepid aircraft carrier groups, which involved several international deployments. After serving his country, he went on to have a successful career as a millwright, which allowed him the opportunity to be involved in the construction of both the Salem One and Salem Two nuclear power plants. He served 30 years with the Millwrights & Machinery Erectors 1545. Following his retirement, James remained engaged and committed to helping U.S. military veterans. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post 73.

He was predeceased by his parents, Whalon L. Urquhart and Gertude Williams Urquhart; sisters, Aletha Urquhart Reed and Lindsay Urquhart; brothers, Rudolph “Rudy” Urquhart and Sylvester Urquhart.

He is survived by his son, Jonathan Urquhart; daughter-in-law, Monika Treutler Urquhart; grandchildren, Sabrina Urquhart and Alex Urquhart; his sisters, Ada Urquhart Brooks and Annette Urquhart Guy; his brothers, John Lee Urquhart, Richard Urquhart and Andre Urquhart; stepdaughters, Kathryn Urquhart White, Angela Matthews, Alanda Matthews Cyrus, Kim Matthews Ward and Brenda Reed; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Urquhart’s service will be private and his final disposition will be held in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.

A service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St.
