Camp baseball splits games in Myrtle Beach trip

The Camp Community College baseball team split four games on its trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Hurricanes opened the trip Feb. 27 with an 11-7 win over Scotland Campus Sports of Pennsylvania, scoring in each of the first five innings, including three runs in both the first and second innings.
Thomas Fox, Micah Fox and Braydon Charlton each drove in two runs, while at the plate, Joe Lathrop went 2-for-4 and Charlon went 2-for-3. Lathrop, Micah Fox, Charlton and Joel Velasquez all had doubles.
On the mound, Dylan Beck pitched six strong innings, allowing just two earned runs and four hits while striking out five and walking just one.
Later the same day, Camp fell to another Region X opponent, Cleveland Community College of Shelby, N.C. 13-7. Cleveland scored seven runs in the second inning and four in the fourth to stay in front of the Hurricanes as they allowed 17 hits.
Quincy Sippio went 2-for-4 at the plate, Thomas Fox 2-for-3 and Davis Powell 2-for-4, while Powell drove in a pair of runs, and Lathrop drove in another two with a home run.
Nick Martins allowed 11 hits and 10 runs in three innings pitched, but just three of the runs were earned. Jabbari Smith gave up six hits and three earned runs, while striking out six.
On Feb. 28, Camp (2-3) split another pair of games, falling 14-2 to Olney Central College of Illinois in the morning and defeating Bay de Noc Community College of Escanaba, Mich., 11-5 in the afternoon.
Against Olney, the Hurricanes fell behind early, allowing five runs in the second inning, and then a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings, and then allowed five in the fifth in a game shortened to five innings.
Sippio and Micah Fox each had a pair of hits, and Lathrop had an RBI.
Former Nansemond River standout Tristan Williams allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and struck out two in 2-⅓ innings. Four other pitchers combined to allow seven more runs on five hits.
Camp was next scheduled to play at Nelson Community College at 1 p.m. Thursday and then scheduled to host its first games of the season Saturday at Repair Tech Field in Franklin when it took on Lenoir Community College in a doubleheader.
