Finding boot on car embarrassing, effective

To the Editor:
I understand that Southampton County is taking drastic measures to collect taxes that are owed on vehicles, and the “boot on your car” tactic is quite embarrassing and ultimately effective.
It’s even more embarrassing and “effective” when you come outside to find a boot on your car although you paid your taxes and paid them on time!
On June 9, around 2:45 p.m., I came out of Lakeview Medical Center in Franklin and could not move my car because it had been booted. I immediately called the county office, and in minutes someone came and removed the boot.
Good thing the little “enforcer” was still in the area because it was so hot!
Did the county embarrass me as they had hoped for? They sure did!
I’m wondering how many other cars were booted even though the taxes have been paid. I don’t know how they are finding these vehicles, but they need to at least make sure they’re booting the right ones!
I know there are some people who have simply disregarded their obligations and not paid their taxes, but there are a lot of people out here, myself included, who have met their obligations and do not appreciate being humiliated for something like this!
To the person who compiles these lists of cars to be booted, please review it carefully before you send your goons out.
