COURTLAND – Michael Todd Griffin, 50, unexpectedly passed away Dec. 20, 2021 in his home.
Michael was a 1989 graduate of Southampton High School and was an advanced EMT and firefighter serving the community for 30 years and a mentor to many firefighters. He was employed at Sentara MTI for 20 years, stationed at Capron Fire and Rescue. Michael was a very decorated firefighter and received The Governor’s Award for Pre Hospital Provider.
Michael was a softball coach, pitching coach and an honorary member of Capron Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. He always made time for the softball kids and his community. He was a member of Boykins Masonic Lodge No. 287 AF&AM and a member of Capron Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 30 years, Shelia Marie Bailey Griffin; three daughters, Jessica Marie Griffin, Ashley Griffin Edsall and Bailey Rebecca Griffin; his mother, Gwendolyn Diane Dunlow Griffin; two brothers, Calvin Pope Griffin Jr. (Melissa) and Tommy Lee Griffin (Sheila); two grandchildren, Alyssa Edsall and Jayden Austin; and many nieces and nephews along with other extended family. Michael is predeceased by his father, Calvin Pope Griffin and a brother, Robert Wayne Griffin.
A fireman’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Brady officiating. Burial will follow in Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Capron Fire and Rescue.
