The University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and School of Continuing and Professionalism Studies awarded Southampton County Treasurer, Cynthia J. Edwards the title of Master Governmental Treasurer (MGT) on November 15, 2021. The certificate was recently presented to Edwards at the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia Spring District Meeting at the Legacy in Williamsburg on March 25. The MGT Certification Program is designed to advance the professionalism of the local governmental Treasurer and his/her staff in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Local government finance, like many other professions, requires special study, knowledge and skills. This Certification Program sets forth the regulations and standards that recognize professional attainment. The Treasurer completing this Certification Program shall be designated as a Master Governmental Treasurer. Presenting the certificate is President of the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia Jeff Shafer. We commend and congratulate MGT Edwards on earning this award.
