FRANKLIN – Roy McClinton “Shug” Carr, 80, widower of Ann Whitehurst Baines Carr, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2022. Born on Dec. 24, 1941, he was a son of the late John Gladstone Carr Sr. and Alma Turner Carr. He was also predeceased by two stepsons, Wayne Baines and Robert Richie Baines; two sisters, Marie C. Gray and Doris C. Beale; and a brother, John G. Carr Jr.
Roy was a U.S. Army veteran serving during Vietnam and a retired shift analyst for Hercules Inc. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and an avid fisherman.
Left to cherish his memory is a brother, Bobby Ray Carr (Linda) of Boykins; two stepchildren, Shirley B. Robinson (John) of Windsor and Donnie Wesley Baines (Debra) of Capron; six stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Cussick, Brian Callis, Wesley Baines, Katie Copty, Nikki Baines and Krystal Baines; 10 step-greatgrandchildren; two nieces, Stephanie Meadows and Stacy Carr; and five nephews, Lonnie Gray, Jr., Mac Beale, Bill Beale, Bob Beale, and Jeff Carr.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 2 in Poplar Spring Cemetery with Dr. Charles Qualls officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside one hour prior to the service and suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or any favorite charity.
