The City of Franklin Department of Parks and Recreation hosted an adult coed softball league this year, running from June 6-July 18 at Armory Park.
A department news release noted that the league was held on Monday nights and consisted of four teams — the Lions, Teddy Roosevelt Express, Team Johnson and Team Stout.
Each Monday, the teams would square off in hopes of earning the championship plaque and bragging rights for the season.
After a hard-fought regular season, the title of champion was still up for grabs going into the league’s playoff night Monday, July 18.
The No. 2-seeded Lions advanced to the championship game by way of an unfortunate forfeit by the No. 3 seed in the semifinals. The No. 4-seeded Teddy Roosevelt Express and top-seeded Team Stout faced each other in the other semifinal game. Team Stout won by a score of 22-7 in four innings.
Team Stout then faced off against the Lions in the championship bout. The game was back and forth for its entirety, but Team Stout completed the comeback in the bottom half of inning No. 5 as the time limit expired. Team Stout defeated the Lions by a final score of 20-15.
“On behalf of Franklin Parks and Recreation, we would like to thank all of our teams for coming out and participating in our league this year,” Parks and Rec officials stated. “We hope to have you all back next season.”
