Recently Chief Walt Red Hawk Brown and other tribal members of the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe of Southampton County gave a Native American presentation to the faculty and students of Tidewater Community College’s Chesapeake campus. A tribe news release stated that tribal members, dressed in full native regalia, danced into the presentation to the drumming by Yapatoko. The Archaeological Society of Virginia, Nansemond Chapter, was represented by Teresa Preston, who was on hand displaying native artifacts dating back 8,000 to 10,000 years.
