Windsor High School’s varsity girls and boys basketball teams have made the beginning to the 2022-23 season a successful one for Dukes hoops.

On Monday, Dec. 12, the Windsor girls defeated visiting Bruton High School 52-39, improving to 6-0 overall on the season, including a 3-0 mark in the Tri-Rivers District.

Leading the Lady Dukes on offense was junior Keaera Kea-Towns with 20 points. Junior Shamyah Stephenson added 11 points.

Windsor Head Coach Wilhelm Johns described his team’s undefeated run through the first two weeks of regular season play as a good way to start the year.

“It’s not surprising, but we have more work to put in to reach the goals we have for this year,” he said.

On Friday, Dec. 9, the Lady Dukes hosted Franklin High School and prevailed 60-48.

On the same night, the Windsor boys experienced their first defeat after starting the year 3-0. The Dukes fell 70-35 to undefeated host Franklin High School. 

The Windsor boys enter their 7 p.m. road game Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School with an overall record of 3-1, including a 2-1 record in the district.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the Windsor girls defeated host Southampton High School 36-25. The Lady Dukes were led in scoring by freshman Mariah Stephenson with 15 points. Shamyah Stephenson contributed 11 points.

Also that night, the Windsor boys routed visiting Southampton 62-29.

On Dec. 5, the Lady Dukes blew out visiting Sussex Central High School 56-18.

Mariah Stephenson again led the way on offense, this time pouring in a game-high 27 points.

The Lady Dukes held visiting Thomas Jefferson High School to single digits on Dec. 3, defeating the Lady Vikings 65-8.

The Windsor boys earned their second win of the season when they recorded a 54-38 home win over Sussex Central on Dec. 5.

The Windsor girls are set to visit ARGS on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m.
