The Rock Church School varsity basketball team stayed undefeated this season after beating host Brunswick Academy by a score of 69-50.
An RCS news release noted that the game started out close, as both teams were trading baskets.
Rock Lions sophomore Miles Dawkins hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to get the Lions off to a hot start. Rock went into halftime leading 31-21.
D.J. Dillon went 10-for-14 from the field in the second half, including two deep threes. He finished with a game-high 43 points, while Miles Dawkins had 18.
Ian Johnson pulled in 14 rebounds to lead the Lions.
The Vikings’ main scorer was Cameron Lynch with 12, and Jerry Powell added eight.
“We are off to a great start and excited about our potential,” Rock Lions Head Coach Danny Dillon said. “Beating a bigger school like Brunswick is a big deal. Coach Morris, Brunswick’s head coach, is a great coach and gets the most out of his boys. He has also kept up with D.J. and encouraged him in the offseason and even reached out to colleges on his behalf. Coach Morris is a coach that is in it for the right reasons. We give God glory for each day, and it’s pretty cool to win on that day He blesses us with!”
The Rock Lions junior varsity team also won by a score of 30-20.
Next, both Lions teams were set to travel to play Great Bridge Christian Academy and Bethel Christian School in Hampton.
