FRANKLIN – Marvin Gilbert Porter, 93, loving husband and father, passed away Dec. 31, 2022. A native of Franklin, Gilbert was predeceased by his loving wife, Ann Mann Porter. He was the son of the late Willie Marvin Porter and Janey Ethel Porter and was also predeceased by his sister, Martha Ann Porter Williams and son-in-law Benjamin Randolph Allen III.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Alisa Porter; son, Gregory Scott Porter and of Windsor; daughter, Kelley P. Allen of Boerne, Texas and three grandchildren, Brittany Perry (Bryce), Justin Porter (Whitney) and Porter Allen and one great-grandson Braxton Perry.
Gilbert Porter was a 1952 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI) and worked for Union Camp until his retirement. He was the president of the Franklin/Southampton Hokie Club and president of the Franklin Lions Club.
He was an avid Hokie football fan, loved traveling with his wife and enjoyed spending time at Sandbridge Beach with family and friends. Gilbert was an active member of the High Street United Methodist Church his entire life servings as an acolyte as a boy, ushering and participating in the Men’s Breakfast Group.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at the High Street United Methodist Church with burial following in the Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a small reception at the church following the burial.
