Joseph P. King Jr. Middle School sixth graders who earned a place on the Honor Roll during the first quarter of the 2022-23 academic year were recognized during a ceremony in the school auditorium Friday, Dec. 2.

Students who made the Honor Roll earned A’s and B’s.

A news release from Franklin City Public Schools continued by noting that JPK Assistant Principal Michelle Gunter welcomed students, parents and faculty to the Friday morning program. As each student was called to the stage, a medal was placed around their neck, and a certificate was presented. 

To further congratulate the honorees, JPK Principal Dr. Regina Stafford shook hands with each pupil. She explained to parents who were in the audience or watching on a Zoom link that this feature is done to teach the students a skill they will need later in life.

Named to the Honor Roll were Asher Bryant, Makenzie Carter, Javonte’ Goodwin, Sinaj Holland, Amiyah Johnson, Ty’yana Lee, E’Ternity Mitchell, Sharod Perry, Noah Sterling and Dominic Umphlett. 

For their perfect attendance, Sakaylah Hunter, Bronze Ruffin, Dominic Umphlett and Olivia Wood were recognized. 

Aubri Branch, De’Shya Kindred, E’Ternity Mitchell and Makenzie Carter were each named  Model Scholars. 

Afterward, Stafford again commended the students for their achievements and pointed out that all who had striven for academic excellence in the past nine weeks of school had “experienced success” on some level. She urged all sixth graders to set a goal for the second quarter. 

“You have it within you,” she said. “Dream it. See it. Believe it.”
