WAKEFIELD – Charles Barrett Brittle, 82, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023. He was the son of the late Cephas Gilbert and Catherine Barrett Brittle. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Earl T. Brittle and Gilbert C. Brittle Jr.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Walker Brittle; son, David Brittle (Shonda); daughter, Robin Brittle Hoagland (Richard); grandchildren, Maya Hoagland Velez (Eric) and Richard Hoagland Jr.; great-grandchildren, Carson and Lauren Velez; sister, Carolyn Brittle Boykin (Nelson) and many other loving family members.

Charles worked as a farmer at a young age. He and his brother Earl farmed together. After his brother’s passing, he and his son David farmed together. Charles was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, along with his son. His love of being on a tractor continued and thanks to Chris Parker and sons, he was able to do that until recently. Charles loved his church family and was a deacon at Wakefield Baptist Church.

He loved being a cherished “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He had a close bond with his grandson, Richard David.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Wakefield Baptist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private.
