INDOOR TRACK
The IWA indoor track program’s Pierce Cutler, Hannah Edwards and Jayce Joyner were their teams’ top finishers at a meet Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
Cutler finished second in the 500-meter dash and fourth in the 1,600-meter event. Edwards finished third in the 300-meter dash, and Joyner earned fifth in the 1,000-meter run.
Members of the IWA program set six new personal records at a Jan. 31 meet at Boo Williams.
Glenn Walters broke the school record in the 55-meter event, and Edwards finished first in the girls 500-meter dash varsity event. Edwards finished first in the girls 500 varsity event the previous week at another meet at Boo Williams.
Edwards’ time of 1:21.32 was about 4 seconds faster than that of the second-place runner, who hailed from Trinity Episcopal School.
IWA finished fifth out of eight teams in the junior varsity boys competition; 10th out of 16 squads in varsity girls races; and 13th out of 14 squads among varsity boys teams.
Walters set a new personal record in the 55-meter event. Also setting new personal records were Brendan Mackie, in the 1,000 meters; Robert Sullivan, in the 1,600 meters; and Jack Anderson, in the 1,000.
