WILLIAMSBURG – Beverly Hester (“Bev”) Scott of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on Feb. 14, 2023 at the age of 83. Bev Scott was from Franklin, born on July 10, 1939, the son of Edward Andrew Scott and Mary Elizabeth Hester Scott. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Elece E. Scott, of Williamsburg; a daughter Angela Scott Wallander (William) of Dallas; and three sons, C. Hunter Scott of Sarasota, B.H. (“Chip”) Scott II (Stefanie) of Washington D.C. and Ral

eigh Clay Scott of Chesapeake. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Delores Wallander Rindt (Matthew) and Rebecca Scott Schultz (Christopher) of Dallas and Wesley Clay Scott, Wyatt Higgins Scott and Willem Augustus Scott of Washington, D.C. He was totally smitten with his two great-granddaughters, Beverly Scott Schultz and Angela Scottie Rindt of Dallas who provided him with his last glimpse into the future. He is also survived by his brother, Andrew Edward Scott (Linda) of Richmond.

Bev attended VMI where he played varsity basketball, competing against such basketball greats as Jerry West (West Virginia) Oscar Robertson (Cincinnati) and Jeff Cohen (College of William and Mary). He spent his professional career in the heavy highway construction business building many roads and bridges throughout the Commonwealth beginning in the 1960s and extending over a more than 50-year career.

Bev was the consummate southern gentleman. He was a kind and gentle man despite his towering 6’6” height. He loved his family above all else in life. He enjoyed watching almost any sporting contest with a particular passion for college football and college basketball. He was truly in his element when attending Virginia Cavaliers’ football games with his sons.

Bev was an avid reader and was especially interested in American history. His love of reading, combined with his interest in American politics always made him well-equipped for lively conversations and informative discussions with family and friends.

A graveside service and internment will be held for Bev Scott at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg on Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. Bucktrout Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
