FRANKLIN – Carolyn Garis Hudson of Franklin, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Feb. 25, 2023 with her family by her side. She had a wonderful and loving 95 years as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a good friend to so many she crossed paths with during her lifetime.

Carolyn was the daughter of the late James Eugene Garis and Mary Neely Garis and was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Edward Francis Hudson and her brother, Edward Garis and sister, Ruth Garis.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: James Edward Hudson (Donna) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David Leonard Hudson (Nora) of Cherryville, Pennsylvania and Ruth Marian Hudson Patterson (Brian) of Franklin; grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Hudson Bock (Sascha) of Neulussheim, Germany, Jennifer Lauren Hudson (fiancé Kyle Hurley) of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Sean Edward Hudson (Andrea) of Courtland; great-grandchildren, Ian Edward Hudson, Luka Alexander Bock and Erik Martin Bock; sister-in-law, Carmella Hudson and a wonderful and large extended family of relatives and friends.

Carolyn was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Ogdensburg, New Jersey, where she grew up, graduated from Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, class of 1948 and class officer for many years. She became first a teacher and then a Regional Girl Scout Executive Director. She was a life-time Christian Scientist serving many church roles over 70 years. She was an active and proud member of the Mayflower Descendants Society and was always interested in family history and cherished large and small family reunions. In retirement years, in addition to being an active AARP member, she and her husband, Ed adventured and enjoyed travel around the world many times including China and Russia in the 1980’s, long before it was easier to do.

In accordance with her wishes, a private family ceremony and burial will be held later at Newton Cemetery in Newton, New Jersey. Dearly loved by all, Carolyn will be greatly missed, but always cherished in our memories.
