CARSON, Virginia – Barbara departed this life surrounded by her loving family on March 17, 2023. Barbara is now at peace with her Lord and Savior. She is also reunited with her parents, Myron and Mattie Barnes; her husband, Floyd Q. Fowler; her sisters, Shirley Rogers and Emma Pulley, as well as many other family members and friends.
Barbara was retired. She loved spending time with her family and working in her yard. Before she moved from Franklin, she volunteered at East Pavilion in the sewing room. She was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church where she sang in the choir and was an active member of the Women’s Fellowship.
Barbara is survived by her children, Betty S. Hawks, John P. Spence II and Angela S. Piersa (Stan). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wilbur A. Hawks IV (Julie), Jason A. Hawks (Kristen), Crystal H. Toombs (Marshall), Michael J. Spence (Sarah), Tiffany S. Daniels (William), Garrett A. Piersa and Makenzie B. Piersa. She had 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Let’s not forget her favorite grand pup, Pearl.
Barbara’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to James River Hospice for their compassion and kindness during this most difficult time. We would also like to thank Diane Williams for her faithfulness to our mama throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a donation to Tabernacle Methodist Church in care of Diane Williams, 18918 Malones Road, Carson, VA 23830 or Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 North High Street, Franklin, VA 23851 in our mother’s memory. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25 at Tabernacle Methodist Church, 18027 Malones Road in Carson, at 11 a.m. and officiated by Rodney Jenkins and Jim Hyatt. Burial will be private.
