In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, several members of Windsor-based Elevate Church lifted people’s spirits as part of an event they called “Love Day.”
A church news release stated that Karla Cobb, one of the church’s members and the coordinator of “Love Day,” explained that this event started seven years ago as she and the pastor’s wife, Haley Carr, were thinking of ideas with which to bless the community and just put a smile on peoples’ faces.
On Tuesday, Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, more than 1,300 treat bags were hand-delivered to 60 businesses for each employee, as well as the Windsor schools, Carrsville Elementary School and Isle of Wight Academy.
Consulate Health Care, in Windsor, and the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office also received goodies.
Chick-fil-A lunches were delivered to Windsor police and rescue squad members.
“Many hours go into protecting our community, as well as helping those in need all hours of the day and night,” church officials stated in the release. “We just wanted to thank them for their service and dedication each day.”
Elevate Church meets at Georgie D. Tyler Middle School each Sunday at 10 a.m., with Thomas Steele Carr serving as pastor.
Now 11 years old, the church began with a laser focus on loving God and loving others the way God does — unconditionally.
“‘Love Day’ was just a small way to show that love,” Cobb said.
