COURTLAND – Elizabeth Bradshaw Perry, 85, born Sept. 29, 1937 passed away May 25, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Reginald and Sarah Gay Bradshaw and her brothers, Reginald, Edward and Samuel Bradshaw and sister, Rubie Ehlman.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Rideout and son-in-law, Robert Turner; a brother, Dale Bradshaw (Kandie) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elizabeth joined the workforce at age 16 after graduating from Courtland High School. Her first job was working at Vau
ghn and Company Bank in Franklin. She went on to work for Dr. Birdsong and Putze as a receptionist and secretary. After moving to Edenton, North Carolina, she worked at Chowan Medical Center and upon moving to Lakeland, Florida she became a secretary receptionist for Dr. Hodge. When the family moved back to Franklin, she went to work for Dr. Britt as a receptionist and bookkeeper. After a few years she got restless and decided she liked working outdoors and became a gas station attendant. In this role, she became the first woman in the state of Virginia certified to do car inspections. It was at the service station that she met many friends and eventually landed at Union Camp Corporation where she retired at 70 as a shift supervisor in the roll finishing department.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 28 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Alderman officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 27 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the funeral home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
