First grade Capron Elementary students in Connie Johnson’s and Katie Butler’s classes recently visited the Southampton Heritage and Agriculture & Forestry Museum in Courtland. Students enjoyed an enlightening tour of the grounds given by Al Briggs, Dennis Burgess, Jeff Butler, Jimmy Holland, Tommy Lowe and Bill Wolfe. The museum, is dedicated to preserving antique farm equipment, hand tools and rural wares used “way back when.” The children enjoyed indoor and outdoor displays and exhibits of more than 6,000 items many of which are 200+ years old. The Heritage Village includes a 1950s country store, a one-room schoolhouse, country dwelling, 4-seater outhouse and more. The main building houses 26 model trains on 10 layouts and watching the trains operate around the tracks mesmerized the students. Lunch was held under the Pavilion.
