CROSS COUNTRY

The Isle of Wight Academy cross country team competed at the inaugural Ham City Hustle Invitational Saturday, Sept. 9, at Windsor Castle Park.

Alexandra Wilson was the top girls finisher for IWA, finishing in 23rd place with a time of 24:36. She was followed by Jillian Foster’s 42nd-place finish at 28:34 and Lauren Maust at 28:44 in 45th place.

IWA boys finishers were led by John Butler in 26th place at 19:38. He was followed by Jayce Joyner at 21:18 and Zachary Jackson at 21:19.

The team will run again Wednesday, Sept. 13, with a regular-season meet at Norfolk Academy.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The IWA girls volleyball team dropped to 2-4 with a 3-2 loss Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Kenston Forest School.

FOOTBALL

Portsmouth Christian School running back Collins Redd’s touchdown in the second overtime period pushed PCS past Isle of Wight Academy’s varsity football team 14-11 Friday, Sept. 1, in Portsmouth.

Redd took the handoff from the Patriots quarterback, breaking numerous tackles and eventually dodging his way into the IWA end zone for a walk-off win.

The Chargers had surged ahead 11-8 on the previous play — freshman kicker Jayden Parsons’ 15-yard field goal in the second overtime.

IWA got 123 yards on 14 carries from senior Luke Dunlap. A safety and Dunlap’s 56-yard touchdown run lifted the Chargers to an 8-0 lead. But in the second quarter, Portsmouth Christian (1-1) intercepted a pass, returned it for a 76-yard touchdown and made a 2-point conversion to tie the score at 8.

Neither team scored in the third or fourth quarters, nor in the first overtime.

The Chargers (0-2) will attempt to improve their individual and collective fortunes on Thursday, Sept. 14, against visiting Norfolk Academy. Game time is 7 p.m.

SEAFOOD FUNDRAISER

The Isle of Wight Academy Athletic Association will have a seafood take-out drive-thru from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.

There is a per-plate rate for tickets, cash or check, and tickets are available through IWA fall athletes or any IWAAA member.
