Isle of Wight County’s School Board recently approved several personnel changes at the school system’s administration.
Jennifer Cary, the former assistant headmaster of Isle of Wight Academy, is now Isle of Wight County Schools’ new instructional coordinator, a role responsible for title grants, English language learners and federal programs.
Cary is a graduate of Old Dominion University, George Washington University and received her doctoral degree from Virginia Tech.
Prior to her most recent role at Isle of Wight Academy, she served as a classroom teacher with Suffolk Public Schools for five years. She also has experience as an assistant principal, assistant director and coordinator.
Natalie Street is now IWCS’s instructional coordinator of professional development and career and technical education. She previously served as a teacher with Suffolk and IWCS. Street was an Instructional Coach for IWCS in 2018 before being named Assistant Principal at Smithfield Middle School and most recently Carrollton Elementary School.
Matthew Fike is now coordinator of transportation. He is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and Old Dominion University. Fike joined IWCS in 2021 after serving as a social studies teacher for 15 years with Suffolk. He was most recently an Assistant Principal at Westside Elementary School.
Johnathan Smith, a graduate of Wilson Tech College, is now coordinator of facilities. He began his career as an heating and air conditioning technician, which led to a career in maintenance supervision for the last ten years. Smith most recently served as the director of operations for Franklin City Public Schools.
Melanie Toth is the new Assistant Principal at Carrollton Elementary School. A graduate of Brandman University, she served as a teacher and assistant principal in California and Rhode Island.
