FRANKLIN – Robert Kirk Whitley, 55, passed away Sept. 16, 2023 in East Pavilion. Kirk was born in Franklin and was a 1986 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a retired corrections officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Kirk was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan.

Kirk was predeceased by his mother, Dolores Tillett Whitley and two brothers, Doug and Trent Whitley.
Survivors include his father, Jim “Bunk” Whitley (Gerry) and one brother, Scott Whitley (Heather) of Burlington, North Carolin and his former wife and friend, Grace.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday Sept. 22 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Gibson, the Rev. Jim Hyatt and the Rev. Dr. Charles Qualls, officiating. The burial will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery. Following the service there will be a reception at Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
The family will receive friends in Wright Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or any favorite charity.
