The Rock Church School varsity soccer team ended the fall 2023 regular season undefeated and has been crowned the 1A North Conference champion.
A recent school news release indicated that the Rock Lions were headed to the 1A Mid Atlantic Christian Athletic Association Tournament, looking to defend their title.
The Lions have continued their dominance, even though they lost five strong starters from last year’s soccer team. Among the stars they lost was D.J. Dillon, who was the leading scorer in the nation last year, according to MaxPreps.com.
The Rock varsity team is 10-0 and has allowed only six goals all season.
School officials noted that the Rock Lions have a strong 11 players and are solid at every position.
Some of their recent wins were against Ridgecroft School, who they conquered by a score of 5-0, and Bethel Christian School, of Hampton, who they beat 6-0.
Rock junior Miles Dawkins is the leader of the team, playing midfield and controlling both offense and defense.
The Lions have five scoring threats, and the top three for this year have been freshman Benny Dillon, Dawkins and freshman Will Pittman. The defense has been led by senior Justin Temple, junior Alex Deaton and junior Dedrick Blow. Rock’s goalie, freshman Rylan Holloman, has allowed only six goals all season.
“I’m thrilled with this team,” Rock Head Coach Danny Dillon said. “I’m shocked that they have done this well losing so many strong players from last year. They have trained hard and have really learned from our great teams these past few years. In turn, they have become great themselves! As always they keep God the main focus, and here we are with another stellar season. God just keeps honoring us!”
Rock hoped to keep to its winning ways as it headed into the quarterfinals of the 1A MACAA Dual State Tournament.
