CHESTER, Virginia – Velvet Yvonia Claud, age 62, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 at her home in Chester, Virginia.
Velvet was born to Obadiah and Mertle Claud on Dec. 12, 1960, in Southampton County, Virginia. She was a graduate of Southampton High School, James Madison University (B.A.), and the University of New Haven (Masters). She was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church in Branchville, Virginia. While in Connecticut, Velvet was a member of Vertical Church. After moving to back to Virginia in 2021, she became a member of Destination Church, Hopewell, Virginia, where she served as a greeter faithfully until her health began to fail. While in Connecticut, she was employed as an accountant/tax manager/transfer pricing, with Sikorsky, Southern New England Telecommunications, Thomson Reuters and Terex Corporation.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; father, Obadiah Claud and sibling, Abigail Claud.
She is survived by her mother, Mertle Claud; sisters, C-Olia, Cornelia, Cordelia, Robin and Abby (Morris); nieces, Cenequanta (Spencer), Sierra, Laniyah, Ariya and Autumn; nephews, Obadiah (Monay), Donovan II, Tyre, Kyle, Tavon, Donavon III, Jaxson, Kanan, Lenox, Loyal, Levyn, Lyric and Lux’e. She leaves behind an abundance of relatives and friends.
She was an avid gym goer taking much pride in her powerlifting abilities and hiking until her health began to decline. She took great pride in her flowers.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
