FRANKLIN—The father-son team of Kevin and Earl Gunn took first place during Round 9 of the Three Rivers Bass Tournament Series last Sunday.

The pair caught five bass weighing a total of 9.68 pounds while fishing from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ boat landing near the General Vaughan Bridge on Highway 258.

Kevin Gunn also won the Big Bass Prize for catching the heaviest fish at 3.24 pounds.

The team of Jerry Bradshaw and Travis Butler took second, followed by Keith and K.J. Vick in third, Rick Caldwell and Frank Fullington in fourth, and Kenny Allen and Donnie Fuller in fifth.

The club will hold an Open Big Bass Challenge Sunday, July 17. This will be the last open-to-the-public tournament of the season.

Boating anglers will compete to weigh the heaviest bass at three weigh-in periods, each about two hours apart. The weigh-ins will be at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded at the final weigh-in.

The Big Bass Challenge will launch at 5:45 a.m. from the boat landing near the General Vaughan Bridge. Entry fee will be $40 per boat with a maximum of two anglers in a boat.

Registration ends at 5:30 a.m.

“The last Big Bass Challenge we had in May was a lot of fun,” said club secretary and photographer Alesia Williams. “We don’t announce any weights during the day, so no one is sure of who is leading until the 1 p.m. weigh-in.”
