Paraprofessionals serving with Franklin City Public Schools will see a pay scale increase effective Wednesday, Nov. 1.
The Franklin City School Board voted 5-0 on Oct. 19 to approve the pay scale increase, which was recommended by FCPS Finance Director Tracy Morrison.
Ward 4 Board Member and Vice Chair Cristina Boone and Ward 6 Board Member Jerry McCreary were not present for the Oct. 19 board meeting.
Prior to the board’s vote, Morrison gave a brief presentation on her recommendation.
“Our goal is to recruit and retain the best possible talent in our district,” she said.
She noted in her slide presentation that FCPS paraprofessionals, which includes teacher’s assistants, entered fiscal year 2023-24 with a pay scale that included a minimum annual pay of $18,900, a midpoint annual pay of $21,297 and a maximum annual pay of $24,238.
“And we propose to move the beginning minimum to $24,238 through a maximum of $27,231 to be competitive with surrounding districts,” she said.
The proposed midpoint annual pay was $25,450.
Morrison indicated that the annual impact to the general fund of the proposed pay scale increase would be $39,159.
“There are nine employees that would be impacted, and we propose to start this on Nov. 1,” she said. “And I would recommend that the board, at this time, approve this salary scale change.”
At-Large Board Member Carrie Johnson made the motion to approve it, Ward 2 Board Member Arwen Councill seconded this, and there was no discussion prior to the 5-0 vote.
