COURTLAND – Texanna Camp Bryant, “Texie”, 84, was welcomed into heaven on Dec. 6, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Texie was predeceased

by her parents, Stafford and Magdeline Camp and her brother, Stafford Vermont Camp “S.V.” She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leroy Bryant and their children, George Leroy Bryant III (Jan), Betsy Bryant Colvin (Peyton) and Shelly Bryant Fisher (Tad); their 11 grandchildren, Sebrell Bryant, Leroy Bryant IV, Aaron Bryant, Tyler Colvin, Sarah Colvin Blow, Sam Colvin, John Colvin, Libby Fisher, Anna Fisher, TJ Fisher and Luke Fisher and great-grandchildren Matt Colvin, Eva Jean Bryant and Melanie Bryant. She is also survived by her sister, Pattie Forbes as well as many nieces and nephews.

Texie was born May 28, 1939 in Sebrell, Virginia. She had many entertaining adventures growing up on a farm. She was part of the first graduating class of Southampton High School. Texie went to Radford College and graduated with a degree in Business Education. She married the love of her life, George Leroy Bryant Jr., on Aug. 19, 1961. Texie and Leroy moved many times with Leroy’s job, living all over the United States until settling back to Courtland in 1976. There Texie was very active in the Gardening Club and had a variety of secret “honey holes“of seasonal greenery around Southampton County that she used to make fresh arrangements all year round. An accomplished seamstress, she used her talents to make curtains for the Courtland Methodist Church as well as for many others. She enjoyed art and nature and rekindled her love of painting as her children grew older. She was active in the Rawls Museum Arts and had a painting group that brought her much joy. She loved games of all kinds and was an avid bridge player for many years. She also enjoyed helping children read at Southampton Academy. She loved all children.

Everyone who knew Texie knew she loved and delighted in her husband, Leroy. Their friendship and love for each other exemplified what marriage is supposed to be. Their example is treasured by their children. Texie spent much time cultivating a loving home and supporting and cheering on her three children and their families. She was intentional in getting to know and love all of her 11 grandchildren. She made everyone feel loved and always found a way to encourage the people around her. She loved to laugh and brought joy wherever she went.

The family would like to thank Jennifer Martin, whose friendship, love and care for Texie greatly enriched the last years of her life.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in Texie’s name to the Courtland Methodist Church Playground Fund. Courtland Methodist Church, 22416 Main St, Courtland, VA 23837.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Courtland Methodist Church. After the church service and a short graveside service in Riverside Cemetery, family will be receiving visitors in the church fellowship hall.
