The Col. William Allen Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, at its March 6 meeting at Benns United Methodist Church, awarded four young people with its American History Essay Award, DAR Good Citizens Award and two DAR scholarships.

Reese Whitley, who attends Isle of Wight Academy received the American History Award.  Her essay won the chapter’s first place award and she also won Virginia DAR District 1’s first place award.

Kate Holland, also of Isle of Wight Academy, is the recipient of the DAR Good Citizens Award.  Jenna Garris, who attends Windsor High School, and Sarah Wells, who attends Smithfield High School, received the chapter’s DAR scholarships.
