A Hampton man turned himself in at the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office and was arrested on Feb. 12 for aggravated sexual battery in connection with alleged offenses in Franklin between 2005 and 2007 involving a minor.
Franklin Police Department Deputy Chief Robert Porti stated that on Dec. 13, 2023, detectives of the FPD were contacted by a victim wishing to notify them of sexual assaults that had occurred within the city of Franklin between 2005 and 2007, at which point the victim was a minor.
Porti stated that the investigation resulted in the direct indictment of Kim Steven Kreider, a 63-year-old man, for alleged violation of Virginia State Code 18.2-67.3, Aggravated Sexual Battery.
“Mr. Kreider turned himself in at the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed,” Porti said.
Maj. Camden Cobb of the SCSO stated that Kreider was served by sheriff’s office staff for active warrants on Feb. 12.
“Since Kreider had city of Franklin charges he was transported to Western Tidewater Regional Jail for booking,” Cobb said. “WTRJ houses city of Franklin inmates.”
The WTRJ Booking Department stated that Kreider was released on a secured bond on Feb. 16.
