International Paper has once again graciously provided a grant to fund flexible seating in our school. The grant entitled “Integrating Flexible Seating in Lower Level Classrooms to Increase Student Success,” written by reading specialist Kathy Thompson enabled us to provide many seating options in our first-grade classrooms. With the grant, we were able to purchase wobble stools, lap desks, floor cushions, padded benches, bean bag chairs and a dry-erase table. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay serene, concentrate and be productive. Comfortable students are less distracted and become more engaged, which has a significant positive impact on their academic progress.
The results are a more active, engaged and relaxed room of students who are enthusiastic learners making great strides in producing positive academic outcomes.
