The Virginia Hound Heritage hosted a supper at the Boykins Fire Department on March 21, 2024, for the surrounding baseball and softball communities, aiming to provide both a good meal and donate a crucial item in today’s society. Led by Troy Cook, the Virginia Hound Heritage donated eight AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) to these communities for on-site use at their recreation facilities in case of emergencies. Representatives from Boykins, Capron-Drewyville, Courtland, Ivor, Sedley, Wakefield, Waverly, and Windsor were present to accept the donation. The organization assessed which communities lacked AEDs on-site and provided this vital equipment.
Before the AED presentation, Timothy Dunn, a professional firefighter and EMT, demonstrated how and when to use the defibrillator. Cook expressed gratitude for the donation and stressed the importance of safety at ballfields. This isn’t the first time the Virginia Hound Heritage has supported the baseball and softball community; it previously donated to help a group of all-stars travel to regionals and zone tournaments.
Southampton-Sussex Baseball President Jake Pope commended the organization for its continuous support. The Virginia Hound Heritage remains committed to supporting not only these eight communities but also others in the surrounding area.
“We are very thankful for the Virginia Hound Heritage not only for the AEDs to provide a sense of safety at the ballfields but for their continued support for our youth in these communities,” Pope said.
