I have officiated or attended many funerals over the course of my 58 years. Most people speak with confidence that their deceased loved one is in heaven. But the Bible tells us that the path to heaven is narrow, and few there are that find it, broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many that enter through it.
Hebrews 9:27 “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the Judgement.” Jesus Christ is the judge of all mankind. This judgment will take place after our life on earth is complete. Jesus is also our redeemer or savior. He forgives the repentant sinner, and offers life eternal in heaven. The one who believes in Him, He will write your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Do not just take for granted that you will go to heaven when you die. We can have assurance for going to heaven, but it certainly will not be because you have somehow been good enough to earn it. In your heart of hearts, you know you are not good, even though you may act good most of the time (at least in your estimation of good). Forgiveness of sin through the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Lord, on the cross at Calvary is the only satisfaction for payment for our sin.
Jesus tells us in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father, but by Me” Is your name written in the Lambs book of life? I hope to see you at the marriage supper of the Lamb one day!
