Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Route 642 (Cobb Road) in Southampton County beginning as early as Wednesday, May 1, to perform culvert restoration.
A VDOT news release noted that during this work, a portion of Route 642 (Cobb Road) will be closed to all traffic, beginning at Route 646 (Rosemont Road) to 0.25 miles east of the intersection, with signed detours in place.
This work is necessary to extend the lifespan of the existing culvert and is estimated to be complete as early as late May. This work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.
Access to all existing private properties and businesses along Route 642 (Cobb Road) will be maintained at all times.
Traffic attempting to access Route 642 (Cobb Road) from Route 646 (Rosemont Road) north will use the following detour:
- Continue north on Route 646 (Rosemont Road);
- Right onto Route 645 (Vicksville Road);
- Right onto Route 638 (Drake Road); and
- Right onto Route 642 (Cobb Road) or continue south on Route 638 (Drake Road).
Traffic approaching the intersection of Route 638 (Drake Road) and Route 642 (Cobb Road) will use the following detour:
- Left onto, or continue north, on Route 638 (Drake Road);
- Left onto Route 645 (Vicksville Road); and
- Left onto Route 646 (Rosemont Road).
