Franklin High School hosted a Track and Field event on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Teams participating with Franklin were Brunswick, Greensville, Mecklenburg, Southampton, Surrey, Sussex and Windsor.
The Franklin girls 4X100 Relay team, consisting of Denali Mitchell, Zariah Mitchell, Jahnia Jordan, and Ayarni Benn, finished in first place, lowering their state qualifying time to 53.05.
The boys’ team, consisting of Cahjmeir Williams, Ahmod Edwards, Lamaj Boone, and Kaden Bailey, finished in third place. Their previous time of 45.05 also qualified them to compete in the VHSL State Tournament. Ketrell Wilson is also a member of the relay team, which helped to secure the state tournament bid.
Individual results from Thursday’s meet:
Ayarni Benn finished in 1st place in the 100 Meter Dash.
Jahnia Jordan finished in 4th place in the Long Jump and 5th in the 100 Meter Dash.
Carley Jackson finished in 5th place in the 200 and 7th in the 400 Meter and lowered her region qualifying score in both events.
Zariah Mitchell finished in 7th place in the 100 Meter Dash.
Kaden Bailey finished in 3rd place in the 100 Meter Dash.
Keonte Flythe finished in 2nd place in the High Jump and 7th place in the Long Jump.
