Sentara St. Luke’s outpatient campus in Carrollton, on May 21, unveiled a mural researched and designed by more than 60 art and history students at Smithfield High School. This is Isle of Wight County Schools’ first project for the nationwide America250 initiatives leading up to the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding, which will occur on July 4, 2026. The mural depicts the 17th century Historic St. Luke’s Church & Museum, the 18th century Windsor Castle homestead of Smithfield founder Arthur Smith IV, the 19th century Mansion on Main, the early 20th century Schoolhouse Museum and the Smithfield Station restaurant, hotel and marina, built in the 20th century and expanded in the 21st. The mural is located in the community room, which nonprofit organizations can use for free.
