COURTLAND – Franklin Lewis Gray, 85, passed away peacefully in his home on June 7, 2024. Born in Como, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Lewis Dailey Gray and Bessie Miles Gray. He was also predeceased by his first wife of 20 years, Vivian Sc
ott Gray; his second wife of 38 years, Julia Stephenson Gray; a stepson, Samuel Wayne Stephenson Jr. and his beloved dog, Oreo.
Franklin was a graduate of Murfreesboro High School and a former Virginia National Guardsman. He was a retired lineman for the City of Franklin and a former volunteer firefighter and EMT for Franklin Fire and Rescue in his younger days. Franklin enjoyed fishing, woodworkin, and cutting his grass. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church.
Left to carry on his memory are his daughter, Marian Gray Lewis; his stepdaughter, Selinda Stephenson Green; a brother, Walter Dailey Gray (Ann); nine grandchildren, Stephanie Boyd (Nigel), Scott Stephenson, Katelyn Lopez (Tito), Vance Stephenson (Missy), Michelle Lewis (Kim), Rebecca Lewis, David Lewis, Samantha Stephenson and Alan Stephenson; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and several nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11 in Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hyatt officiating. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity.
